It’s reviiiiised. IT’S REVIIIIIIIISED!

Okay. Yes. The title of this post is kind of a crappy, Halloween-y attempt at a Frankenstein homage. But don’t miss the point: THE CONTINENT is revised!! It took me almost two months, but this baby is ready to go. My agent gets it today, and then (if it’s APPROVED, of course) it’s off to the races!!

I’m excited, excited, excited. And my brain is fried.

What I plan to do with my free time:

  • Everything
  • Nothing
  • Sleep
  • Xbox
  • Exercise (I’m weird)
  • Build tiny metal model kits
  • READ EVERY BOOK I’VE BEEN WANTING TO READ ALL YEAR
  • Go out into the world
  • Drink alcohol (not too much! just enough to have a little fun)
  • Socialize
  • Human
  • Whatever I want!!

And, of course…outline book two. :)

Thanks for all your support, guys! :D

Exciting!!!!!!!

Sooo! I talk a lot about the writing process on this blog, but I have spoken very little about my actual book. I think today is the perfect time to share with you. :)

I have the good fortune to be represented by the amazing and magical (yep) Jim McCarthy at DGLM (Dystel & Goderich Literary Management). My book is currently in pre-submission revisions, being polished until it gleams and sparkles. Jim, with his keen editorial eye, provided me with **all** the right suggestions to take my novel to the next level. I am SO EXCITED!!

Anyway!! DGLM sends out a periodic newsletter to editors, film folks, etc., in order to spotlight projects that will be on submission in the near future. I was super honored when Jim asked if he could include my book (currently titled THE CONTINENT) in the newsletter. I’ll include a link here if you want to see the whole newsletter (it’s on the DGLM website), but I’ll also just post the excerpt for those of you who don’t feel like getting your click on. I’m so excited to share this with you guys, because a lot of you don’t even know what my book is ABOUT!! So! Without further ado:

For her sixteenth birthday, Vaela Sun receives the most coveted gift in all the Spire—a trip to the Continent. It seems an unlikely destination for a holiday: a cold, desolate land where two “uncivilized” nations remain perpetually at war. Most citizens tour the Continent to see the spectacle and violence of battle—a thing long vanished in the Spire. For Vaela—a smart and talented apprentice cartographer—it is an opportunity to improve upon the maps she’s drawn of this vast, frozen land.

But an idyllic aerial exploration is not to be had: the realities of war are made clear in a bloody battle seen from the heli-plane during the tour, leaving Vaela forever changed. And when a tragic accident leaves her stranded on the Continent, she has no illusions about the true nature of the danger she faces. Starving, alone, and lost in the middle of a war zone, Vaela must try to find a way home—but first, she must survive.

Keira Drake‘s young adult fantasy, THE CONTINENT, is part action adventure, part allegory, and part against-the-odds survival story. Engaging with questions of social responsibility, the nature of peace and violence, and the value (and danger) of nationalism, Drake’s debut is as thought-provoking as it is fast-paced and surprising, a heart-pounding and heartbreaking story of strength and survival. Please note, Jim McCarthy is the agent on this project.

So! There it is. Everything is getting so real, and it’s all so exciting. I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL MY REVISIONS ARE COMPLETE!! :D
